The boys had a busy weekend.
Friday night Oncle Markus came over (and brought a bottle of wine, God bless him!) and hung out with Momma and the boys while Daddy had an evening out. The fellas ate well, had baths and went to bed early. They snuggled up on the couch like puppies. Too sweet and cute.
Saturday we got up and headed for the pumpkin farm. The wellies that Grandma and Grampy brought this spring were just the trick. In fact, Allan was more interested in them than the pumpkins. We checked out the animals in the "farm center" and watched the other kids sliding down the slide (no parents allowed so the boys will have to wait until next year since we weren't prepared to shove the little mites down solo!) The biggest excitement (up to the point, it was only 10 a.m.) was the pony ride. Griff got to go first -- he was pretty tickled about the whole thing, but, as you can see, lacked a little on the technique. Allan, on the other hands, was a natural. He had a great seat and immediately put his hands in front of him on the pommel and leaned forward like he was urging the pony to the finish line.
Both boys fell asleep in the car ride home, but neither stayed that way once we got there. That worked out all right though. We all had a little lunch and Mom got a nap in before Dad left for the football game. Both boys took tremendous naps that afternoon (Griff for 2.5 hours and Allan for 2) so we didn't get a walk in. By the time they woke up, the game was in full swing and it was nearly dinnertime. The game was impossibly close and exciting and we watched it all the way through. The excitement was just too much for the boys, though, and neither one would go to sleep. Good thing I had the earlier nap. They finally went down about 10 or so (a full 2 hours later than usual) but that meant that they didn't get up too early on Sunday. Small mercies.
Momma and the boys went for a long run and came back for lunch. Dad was supposed to take them to watch England/France rugby but 1) they fell asleep and 2) the game was on earlier than Dad realized. So, the boys slept through that (England won, by the way) and Dad only got to see the last 20 minutes. The finals are next week, though, and he won't repeat that mistake!
